School Band (Grades 3–12)
School band and lessons are offered through Paul Effman music. Lessons are held in small group instruction classes. The musicians are grouped by age, instrument, and level. Students learn how to assemble the instruments, how to make a sound, and how to read music. Classes meet once a week. Students have to practice on a regular basis at home.
At the end of the year, the young musicians will have an opportunity to perform in front of the school in our Annual Arts Night in May. For more information, please visit Paul Effman Music Service.
Choir (Grades 5–12)
Our choir is a dedicated group of vocalists who enhance the school’s liturgical celebrations. The choir performs at all Masses and Lenten Stations of the Cross, as well as at the Christmas Concert and at the end of the school year with the band.
Drama (Grades 4–12)
St. Mary’s Schools continues its proud tradition of full-scale theater productions. The most recent production was The Music Man in the spring of 2019. Practice starts in October with auditions and concludes in May with four performances. Our goal is to include as many students as possible in these productions.
The musicals have been a huge success at St. Mary’s, and the shows have been sold out each year. This year we added many new instruments to our mini-orchestra.
St. Mary’s also offers a Theater Arts course for those students who are interested in furthering their dramatic knowledge. Students learn how to direct, design sets and costumes, and guide students in acting and singing. Students also were required to attend local drama productions and critique them based on their project.
The drama club is a self-sustaining program. Through concessions, ticket sales, drama grams, advertisements, and generous donations, the program is able to cover the cost of production as well as a few extras.
Past productions include Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma!, Annie, Sound of Music, Cinderella, Wizard of Oz, Annie Get Your Gun, Beauty and the Beast, and Fiddler on the Roof.
